Day-Hikes
Below we show some day hikes. Most of them are moderate and easy to do. Others are more strenuous and we recommend doing it with a guide.
Lake Jizew
Coming from Rushan, you will pass the village Baghu. About 8 km behind, you will see two bridges. Cross the second bridge and walk about 7 km to Jizew lake. Enjoy the view of the reflecting lake. If you want, you can hike behind Jizew Lake to Jizewdara valley. It is possible to stay in Jizew in a homestay. You can do the tour easily without a guide.
Chorugh Peak Hike
You start at 2000 meters and go about 1200 meters in height until you reach the top of the mountain. From there, you have a fantastic view of the mountain villages of Afghanistan which are located on the other side of the river. You walk along the peak to a viewpoint. From there, you have a wonderful panoramic view over Khorog. The whole track takes about 6-8 hours.
Rivak Valley
Rivak is located 35 km east of Khorog. Take the M41 direction to Murgab. The drive takes around 40 min. You can do a cross-valley hike to the village of Nimos. The highest point is about 4800 meters. For the 65 km cross-valley hike, you need approx. 5-6 days. The Rivak valley also provides a perfect opportunity for a day-hike. After 3 hours of walking, you will reach a beautiful green valley-landscape with a rich variety of plants.
Lake Drumkul
Drumkul lake is located at an altitude of 3345 meters. You can drive 8 km north to the Drumkul village from the village Sezhd through the main road. Then, you can start a 1-hour hike to Drumkul lake. You can camp right by the lake or stay in a homestay in the Drumkul village.
Engels Meadow Basecamp
The idyllic “Engels meadows basecamp” (3945) is a highlight of the Southern Pamirs and is the historic base-camp for countless mountaineering expeditions. It can be comfortably reached by the ordinary walker. From the village of Zong on the main road, you can drive 8 km to Dirch village. From there, it will take you 4 hours to hike 16 km to Engels meadow base camp.

Below we show some multi-day hikes. The whole of the Pamirs is one big hiking Eldorado. We would like to give you some inspiration for possible routes. We cannot show all possibilities on the website. If you have specific questions or are looking for further hiking possibilities please do not hesitate to contact us.
Visit the R.G.S. Glacier or Bears “Medvezhiy” Glacier
3 days
Drive the Vanj valley to the last village of Po-i Mazor. There is a possibility to hike to the glacier with a guide. The hike to the glacier takes about 3 days depending on your fitness level. We strongly recommend hiking with a guide only.
Ghumast to Ubaigh
2-3 days
Embark on a 2-3 days hike from Ghumast village to Ubaigh village. On the 55 km long track, you will pass two marble mines.
Grum Grjimailo Glacier
4 days
You start your hike in the village Pasor. This approximately 60 km long (round trip) trek ends at a lookout point, where you have a stunning view above the glacier. In order to hike to the Glacier, you need a permit, which you can buy in Pasor. Altitude: around 4500 meters. We recommend doing the tour with a guide.
Bardara to Yashikul
6 days
6-day hike from Bardara village to Yashikul lake. On the 75 km long tour, you cross the 4840 meters high Shtik Lazar Pass. You pass several lakes like the Uchkul lakes (which means the three lakes). Additionally, you encounter shepherds on the route and have a good chance of seeing ibexes. We recommend doing the tour with a guide.
Shavoz to Darshai
3-4 days
You will start your tour in Shavoz. There is a possibility to stay overnight in a homestay in Badomdara. You cross a pass at about 4500 meters high and reach Darshai in Ishkashim district.
Visit the R.G.S. Glacier or Bears “Medvezhiy” Glacier
